Across the Star Wars and video game world, the passing of Carrie Fisher has hit hard.

Princess Leia is an icon. She is one of the most recognizable and well-known characters in the history of cinema. Carrie Fisher brought her to life in a way that is deeply embedded in the memories of Star Wars fans.

And now those fans are saying goodbye and thank you. Impromptu gatherings in Star Wars: The Old Republic have been popping up for fans to express their sadness at the passing of a legend – and their gratitude for what she gave us.

Celebrations and get-togethers on Alderaan and House Organa in The Old Republic will undoubtedly be ongoing as Star Wars fans celebrate the life of Carrie Fisher and the unforgettable character she gave us.

In Star Wars: Battlefront, the community would like to see developer DICE do something special to remember and commemorate Fisher’s death as well.

Battlefront is not an MMO like Star Wars: The Old Republic, but there have been strong suggestions that a new Princess Leia skin for the game to honor Carrie Fisher would be appreciated by fans. Whether this happens or not is up in the air, as DICE have not been as forthcoming in putting out new content for the game as fans have liked since it released.

In a culture where female heroes are often portrayed as either hyper-masculine or overly-sexualized, Princess Leia was (and is) neither of those things. She was strong, tough as nails, and dignified; and she did it in a way that sacrificed none of her femininity. She was a princess, and one that you truly could look up to. That’s what Carrie Fisher brought to life.

For Star Wars fans, it is a time for sadness, but also for celebration. Carrie Fisher is gone, but what she leaves behind will be remembered forever. What can we say but thank you.
