Yooka-Laylee draws ever closer to its release date, and Playtonic Games has announced that it will have eight exclusive arcade games that can be played either solo, or co-op with a friend.

Via press release:

“Compete in the Glaciators brawler arena to collect the most quills, race to the finish line in Kartos Karting, fight for the flag in Blag the Flag, blast away the enemies in shoot-em-up Gun-let Run and traverse both Jobstacle Course and Hurdle Hijinx, plus more! These are just some of the exciting games you can expect to find in Rextro’s Arcade.”

Rextro’s Arcade? Who’s Rextro? I guess we’ll find out.

But the arcade games will have leaderboards.

Also, you will be able to power-up the arcade cabinets in the game using special play coins found in the main adventure. Rumor has it that powering-up these arcade cabinets will nab you some pagies. It’s just a rumor though. It’s probably rubbish. Or is it?

“Word has it that those who are able to find and collect the special play coins within Yooka-Laylee’s extensive single-player campaign will even be able to power up the arcade cabinets located within the mysterious book worlds for a chance to win some sought-after pagies.”

Speaking of the main adventure, there will be a co-op mode present there as well for some multiplayer co-op goodness.

“Yooka-Laylee offers a second player the opportunity to co-star in the main Yooka-Laylee adventure. Simply connect an additional controller to buddy up! Taking control of the Bee Team, the second player will able to grab quills and collect and store butterflies for when Yooka and Laylee are really in need of health or energy boost. They can even stop some traps to help the player traverse past particularly tricky obstacles!”

A fantastic-looking game just got a whole lot better. Playtonic Games is bringing back the 3-D platformer, and it’s about time.

Yooka-Laylee is a 3-D platformer in development by fledgling development studio, Playtonic Games. Made up of former Rare employees, Playtonic Games has decades of combined experience. Their resume includes classic titles like Donkey Kong Country and Banjo-Kazooie.

Yooka-Laylee is Playtonic Games first project and was the fastest to reach $1 million in funding on Kickstarter when it was announced. It will release on April 11th on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. A version for the Nintendo Switch is planned, but no release date has been announced.
