Once again, Nintendo of America steps into the social justice/political arena by having an official presence at the Gay Pride Parade in Seattle – and I’m guessing, once again, no video game journalist will have the courage to ask them why a company that has openly claimed they are not interested in politics, or being political, has an official presence at what is essentially a social justice/political march for the LGBTQ arm of the Democrat Party.
This is the letter I wrote last year when Nintendo of America attended the parade. Since nothing has changed, I see no reason to write another one, but I’d be very curious to know, given how conservative a company Nintendo is, how Nintendo of America gets Nintendo of Japan’s blessing to have Nintendo’s official logo at the march.
If Nintendo of America is interested in being a social justice activism company like Google, they should come out and say so. However, if they are truly apolitical, like ex-Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime claimed they are, Nintendo has no business having an official presence at the Gay Pride Parade in any city.
As contradictory as it is on their part, it’s not exactly surprising that a company as big as Nintendo of America, located in one of the most left-wing cities in the country (Seattle), is pushing a left-wing political/social justice agenda. Sad, but not surprising.
