Metroid fans have been half-starved for new content over the last decade. Any new rumor, even if implausible, will get attention from the fan base.

Apparently, this Twitter account has been accurate about leaks and rumors before.

The Metroid Prime Trilogy HD is believable, if not likely, but the Super Metroid remake is not. I can see a possible direct sequel to Super Metroid, in the same way they did a direct sequel to Zelda: A Link To The Past with A Link Between Worlds for 3DS. In fact, according to Nintendo, A Link Between Worlds started out as a remake to A Link To The Past. However, I’ll be shocked if they touch Super Metroid. Don’t mess with perfection. It doesn’t need to be remade.

What I would like to see is a remastering of Metroid: Samus Returns for Switch. After spending a lot of time with Hollow Knight, Samus Returns could really shine graphically on more powerful hardware.

Even if these rumors are true, none of these are new games. They’re all remasters and remakes. Outside of Metroid Prime 4, which Retro Studios pitched to Nintendo, Nintendo still seems at a loss as to how to move the series forward.

Maybe, just maybe, we’ll get some sort of teaser about Metroid Prime 4 at The Game Awards. Doubtful, but it would be great to see.
