Nintendo had their first big Direct since E3. Nothing mind-blowing was announced that we didn’t already know about, but it had a few interesting gems that were shown. There were lots of games announced, but these are the ones that stood out for me.

    • Castlevania Advance Collection
    • Nintendo Switch Online – Nintendo 64 Games
    • ActRaiser Renaissance
    • Bayonetta 3
    • Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic
    • Splatoon 3

The Game Boy Advance Castlevania games aren’t the best games in the series, but definitely worth owning. Aria of Sorrow is the best of the GBA trilogy. Konami is on a roll with Castlevania games on Switch. Hopefully they’ll keep it going and we’ll get the Nintendo DS Castlevania games, as well as the sorely missed Rondo of Blood and Symphony of the Night.

The Nintendo 64 games might be what finally pushes me over the edge to subscribe to Nintendo Switch Online. While I already own Super Mario 64 on Switch and Zelda: Ocarina of Time on 3DS, Sin & Punishment and Yoshi’s Story aren’t available on any current systems I own. I was also surprised to see Banjo-Kazooie announced as one of the N64 games since Microsoft has owned the Banjo IP for almost 20 years now. Nintendo didn’t announce the cost of the new membership plan, but hopefully it won’t be anything exorbitant. Also, that wireless Nintendo 64 controller looks tempting, even at its ridiculous $50 price tag.

ActRaiser is a game with a fantastic reputation, and the HD remake went immediately on my Switch wish list after the trailer.

The first trailer for Bayonetta 3 was the highlight of the Direct. Some Bayonetta fans weren’t happy with the visuals in this trailer, but as long as it plays well, it won’t matter. Plus, the game isn’t finished yet, and Platinum isn’t a sloppy developer. Anything made by Platinum Games is generally worth playing.

Even though it’s almost 20 years old, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is still one of the greatest RPGs ever and should be played by every Star Wars fan. Despite its age, it’s still one of the greatest Star Wars game ever made.

Then there was Splatoon 3, which is  supposed to have a much more robust single-player campaign, in spite of the previous games in the series being primarily multi-player experiences.

Alas, there was no Metroid Prime 4 or Hollow Knight: Silksong.

Nintendo also announced that Animal Crossing and Smash Ultimate are getting their own Directs next month, which is interesting. Now that New Horizons is finally getting The Roost, I consider the game finally finished and worthy of purchase. Also, I’m sticking with my prediction for the last DLC Smash character being Diablo. I really hope it’s not Master Chief.
