GamesBeat put out a fantastic article about the working conditions at Moon Studios, the developer behind the two Ori games.

What is great about this piece is how specific it is. There are no nebulous, general accusations of misogyny or sexism or political-incorrectness. It’s a very detailed account of what’s been going on at the studio, who exactly is responsible, and what the effect has been on the people working there.

In Moon Studios’ case, all the dysfunction and toxicity has come from the two guys at the top. The developers themselves battled through it to create what ended up being two great games.

What is also interesting is that the the two guys in charge of Moon Studios, Gennadiy Korol and Thomas Mahler, don’t deny any of what went on. They try to soft-peddle and rationalize their behavior, claiming it was all in the name of making a great game, but nowhere do they ever deny that what they’re being accused of isn’t true.

It’s a long read, but compelling. In fact, it’s an essential read for anyone who cares about the video game industry and how games are made.
