Will Smith’s movies are “on hold”. Not cancelled, nor will Smith be cancelled for what he did. They’re going to wait for it to blow over, then it will be business as usual.
But if it had been a white actor that had smacked Chris Rock at the Oscars…
Two Will Smith projects are reportedly on hold following the incident in which he slapped Chris Rock on-stage. They include Bad Boys 4, which reportedly had been in active development, and Fast and Loose – a Netflix movie that was to star Smith as a crime boss who loses his memory.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, David Leitch was attached to direct Fast and Loose, but left the project one week before the Oscar ceremony. Netflix urgently sought to replace Leitch with a new director, but following the incident at the Oscars, Netflix reportedly put the project on the backburner – at least for the foreseeable future.
Elsewhere, THR reports that Bad Boys 4 is also on pause. The project was said to be moving ahead, with Smith receiving 40 pages of the script, but it is now on hold as events play out. Other projects in pre-production are also reportedly on hold.
Smith’s postponed projects are part of the ongoing fallout from the Oscars incident, which saw Smith approach Rock and slap him after the comedian made a joke about Jada Pinkett-Smith’s alopecia, which has resulted in hair loss.
