The NYXI Wizard Wireless Joypad is basically a wireless GameCube controller with the functionality of the Switch Joy-Con. It’s a wireless controller that splits apart so you can use it for Switch in handheld mode, or you can connect if with a centerpiece to play the Switch docked, or you can pair it to play games on Steam.
If you never owned a GameCube, it had the most comfortable controller you’ve ever held. It would melt into the your hands. While the Wizard Wireless isn’t a one-to-one replica of the GameCube controller, it’s pretty close, with extra buttons and full Joy-Con functionality. Plus, it has ‘hall effect’ analog sticks, which is a new kind of tech that does away with stick-drift once and for all.
More third-party Joy-Con makers are using ‘hall effect’ tech, and Nintendo should implement it into future iterations of their analog sticks. The standard Switch Joy-Con that come with the system have great functionality, but the sticks have low durability. They feel flimsy even when they work well, but they eventually start drifting, which many Switch owners can attest, is extremely frustrating, even with Nintendo offering free repairs.
The Wizard Wireless is the first third-party controller I’ve ever bought, but the YouTube reviews I’ve seen for it have been glowing. I won’t get the controller for a couple months since they’re backed up on orders right now, but I should have it for Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom’s release in May. It’s everything I want in a controller to the point that I feel like it was made just for me. I’m very excited to get it and I’ll try to post a review after I’ve spent some time with it.
