I’m starting to have second thoughts about The Super Mario Bros. Movie after hearing Seth Rogen’s voice for Donkey Kong in the latest trailer. It did not further endear me to the film. If the the majority of the film is going to be slapstick comedy, it’s going to be a pass for me. At least as far as seeing it in the theater. 

Honestly, I’m having second thoughts about the whole idea of Nintendo making movies. If Nintendo goes on to make a Zelda movie, a Metroid movie, a Fire Emblem movie, etc., they cease being a video game company at that point and become an entertainment company. I don’t know if I’m okay with that. I want Nintendo focused on making games, not animated movies. 

It’s strange that Nintendo tends to shy away from story in their games, but is willing to spend all this money on making a Super Mario movie. Everything that’s been shown so far looks like a westernized version of Mario and the Mushroom Kingdom. That’s not what I want.
