Konami’s Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 1 seems to be somewhat subpar in its performance on PC and Nintendo Switch.
On PC, Konami locked the resolution to 720p, although the game advertises itself as running at 1080p. Not to mention, the PC version lacks basic video and audio options – for example, no borderless or windowed modes. Also, the original Metal Gear Solid runs locked at 30 FPS, which hasn’t gone over well given it’s a port of a PlayStation 1 game. Metal Gear Solid on PC also requires a controller to play – no keyboard and mouse support.
Meanwhile, the Nintendo Switch version doesn’t include all the games on the cartridge. Even if you buy the physical copy of the game, you still have to download Metal Gear Solid, Metal Gear Solid 2, Metal Gear Solid 3, and the bonus content – a 32 GB download. Also, the bonus content is having issues which Konami says they are trying to get fixed.
Suffice it to say, Konami rushed this collection out the door, most likely so they could reap holiday sales. Unless you really, really can’t wait to play these games again, or maybe for the first time, it’s best to wait to see what Konami and the modding community does to fix this collection. By that time, there should be a price drop.
