Shigeru Miyamoto has announced on X that he’s working on a live-action Legend of Zelda movie with Maze Runner director Wes Ball. Ironically, the film is being co-funded by Nintendo and Sony Pictures Entertainment, with Sony handling the theatrical distribution.

After the success of The Super Mario Bros. Movie, a Legend of Zelda movie was probably inevitable. However, the announcement of it being live-action has been a surprise to many, as opposed to another animated film. The endless speculation of who will be cast has already begun, everyone naming their favorite triple-A star to play Link, Princess Zelda, and Ganondorf. Miyamoto said in his X post that he’s been working on this movie for years, but no release date was given, so it’s likely not releasing anytime soon.
