Maybe the most impressive game shown at Nintendo’s recent Indie World Showcase was Blade Chimera. The trailer wasn’t long, but it showed what looked like a 2D action-platformer (Metroidvania) in a modern-day urban or futuristic setting with the protagonist using their sword to fight, swing, and defend. The sword changes and morphs into a variety of different objects – hence the name Blade Chimera. It’s being made by Team Ladybug and WSS Playground and will be coming to Switch and PC in Spring 2024.

In the year 20XX, cities were suddenly flooded with demons in the form of monsters and spirits that suddenly appeared in the city, sparking an all-out Demon War.

Even now, more than 30 years later, demons still roam the streets and harm humans wherever they go.

In this exploration-heavy 2D action game, use your demon sword to interfere with the past, create platforms, and shield yourself from danger to explore a dystopian cyberpunk world depicted in gorgeously animated pixel art.

You play as Shin, a Demon Hunter who has lost his memories and is now exploring the world together with his sword—the transformed Lumina demon Lux—recollecting memories about yourself, your missing wife, and skills you’ve forgotten.

Each time you recollect a lost skill, Lux changes form according to the will of her wielder, making Shin stronger and granting access to more areas of the world.
