There have been rumblings of a new Karate Kid film for awhile, and after the success of Cobra Kai, it was probably inevitable the series would make its way back to theaters. Now it’s official. Ralph Macchio and Jackie Chan are reprising their roles as Daniel and Han in a new Karate Kid movie they’ll be starring in together. They’ve put out the casting call for a new karate kid to play the role of the up and coming student.

It will be very interesting to see how they tie this new film in with everything that’s happened in Cobra Kai. Season Six is scheduled to come out sometime in 2024 and will be the last season of the show. After it finishes, I imagine work on this new film will start in earnest, which will be directed by Jonathan Entwistle.

For those that haven’t seen Cobra Kai yet: if you have any nostalgia for the Karate Kid movies from the ‘80s, it should be considered a must-watch. It’s a very faithful continuation of Daniel LaRusso’s and Johnny Lawrence’s story that can’t be recommended enough. It’s a superb show.
