As if ruining Star Wars and Indiana Jones wasn’t bad enough, Disney is now moving on to The X-Files. How an adult-themed hardcore science-fiction show, that had one of its episodes banned from network television in the ‘90s, fits into Disney’s ‘family-friendly’ library is anyone’s guess. The X-Files is not family-friendly. It’s one of the bleakest, most dystopian, and paranoid shows ever to be on television, but Disney wants to reboot it anyway.
After all those box office flops, it’s reasonable to assume that Disney needs money, but trying to resurrect a dormant IP that no one at Disney likely has any feel for, and will probably be riddled with political commentary, is not going to work.
Disney has no original ideas left. All they’re capable of is feeding on other people’s work. Sad.
Disney, which birthed the idea of “cinematic universes,” is developing a new version of X-Files that would be produced by Ryan Coogler, the director of Black Panther and Creed.
