Nintendo’s president Shuntaro Furukawa released a statement on X acknowledging the existence of the successor to the Switch, which fans are calling Switch 2. He stated that Nintendo will announce more details about Switch 2 before the end of the fiscal year, which goes through March 2025. Furukawa also announced a Nintendo Direct for June, but stated no hardware announcements or details will take place during the presentation.

That’s still possibly a long wait, but it looks like Nintendo is being straightforward to temper expectations. However, that doesn’t mean cross-platform games couldn’t make appearances during the Direct. Nintendo’s E3 2016 was all about Zelda: Breath of the Wild before the original Switch was revealed later in the year. If some of the Switch 2 launch games are also coming out on Switch, we could possibly see them during this Direct.

So good news and not so good news for Nintendo fans. The Switch 2 is coming, but dig into that backlog because we still got some waiting to do.
