The original PlayStation launched in Japan on December 3, 1994. To celebrate its 30th anniversary, Sony is releasing special edition PlayStation 5, PlayStation 5 Pro, and PlayStation Portal hardware.
The PS5, PS5 Pro, and PS Portal will all receive PlayStation-themed consoles, complete with hookup cables that hearken back to Sony’s original console. The Dual Sense and Dual Sense Edge will also get their own special editions, complete with PlayStation-themed grip texture on the handles of the controllers. The PlayStation Charging Station and the controller case for the Dual Sense will be getting their own PlayStation themes. Also, the PlayStation Portal will be getting the same treatment, using the original PlayStation coloring for its controller.
However, Sony is only manufacturing 12,300 units of the PS5 Pro Special Edition, so they’re likely going to be very hard to come by after launch. Scalpers will likely have a field day with all of this hardware.
The PlayStation 30th Anniversary Collection launches on November 21, 2024 and pre-orders start on September 26th. Check out Sony’s announcement video below:
