In the past, Nintendo has been strict about unauthorized music from their games being on YouTube and other sites. As a result, users have been swift to condemn Nintendo for this, claiming there’s no “legal” way for fans to listen to Nintendo’s songs from their games. Well, now there is. Nintendo has announced Nintendo Music, a mobile app that lets you listen to a selection of Nintendo tunes spanning their history, from Super Mario to Zelda to Star Fox to Kirby. There are pre-made playlists from different Nintendo IPs, or you can make your own. You can stream the songs, or download them to your device, extend the length of songs, or strike them from being played at all if you don’t like them, or if they’re from a game you haven’t played yet and don’t want anything spoiled.
Whether this app currently offers the same variety as you would get going into the music player in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and getting your Nintendo music fix that way, is not known. Smash Ultimate’s soundtrack is colossal, offering over 1000 different tracks. Maybe Nintendo Music will get to that point someday, but for now, it’s a start, plus the Switch console isn’t exactly made for mobile listening if you’re on the go. The catch is that Nintendo Music is only available to Nintendo Switch Online subscribers.
Nintendo Music is out now for download on Google Play and the Apple Store. Check out the announcement trailer below:
