Half-Life 2 originally released on PC twenty years ago in 2004 and still might be the greatest single-player FPS ever made. Valve is celebrating their landmark game with a 20th Anniversary Tribute video, and talking about the RTX remake the mod community is working on, featuring ray-tracing and NVIDIA DLSS 3.5. Half-Life 2 was a visual benchmark when it released, and still looks good for its age, but this RTX remake will make it look like a modern game, and the proof is in the video. It’s impressive.

Half-Life 2 RTX doesn’t have a release date yet, but will be free for all owners of Half-Life 2 on Steam when it comes out. Also, all the Half-Life games are heavily discounted on Steam right now, and Valve is giving away Half-Life 2 for free while the sale is going on. The current free version comes with the Episode 1 and Episode 2 expansions, plus its own set of graphical enhancements. If you haven’t played Half-Life 2 before, you really should. It’s aged like fine wine.
