One of the biggest announcements at The Game Awards was the announcement that a sequel to the 2006 action-adventure game Okami is in development. It’s being developed by Clovers, Hideki Kamiya’s new development studio, with Capcom publishing. We don’t know much about the game from the trailer, and it doesn’t sound like the game is going to be out anytime soon. However, knowing a sequel is finally being made is fantastic news.

Okami was originally released in 2006 on the PlayStation 2 and is maybe the only instance in the history of video games where a developer out-Zelda’ed Nintendo. The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess came out the same year for the GameCube and the Wii, and many players believed that Okami’s take on the Zelda formula was more visionary and creative than what Nintendo offered that year. It’s a big, sprawling action-adventure with a unique art style that was completely ahead of its time in 2006. Okami has since been ported to multiple other platforms and has become one of Hideki Kamiya’s most beloved games.
