At this point, Hollow Knight: Silksong is arguably the most anticipated indie game of all time. The original Hollow Knight released on PC back in 2017 to positive reviews and word-of-mouth, but it was its release on Switch in 2018 that garnered it the reputation as an indie classic.
Team Cherry announced the sequel, Hollow Knight: Silksong wih a trailer in 2019, and that’s pretty much the last we’ve seen or heard of it. We’ve been assured by Team Cherry that the game is being regularly worked on and is in active development, but other than that, Silksong has gone almost completely dark.
Until just recently.
More specifically, until right before Nintendo’s recent Switch 2 trailer.
We think.
William Pellen is the co-creator of Hollow Knight. Right before Nintendo released the Switch 2 trailer, Pellen posted on X: “something big is coming. keep your eyes closed tomorrow”. Fans noted the band Imagine Dragons used that exact phrase in reference to their song Eyes Closed on April 2, 2024.
Pellen also recently changed his profile picture on his X account. When you reverse image search that profile picture, it takes you to a recipe for chocolate cake that was posted on April 2, 2024.
He also changed his X handle to Little Bomey, which fans noticed is similar to Little Boomey: a wine made in Adelaide, Australia, Team Cherry’s hometown. The wine is from April 2024 as well.
What’s the significance of April 2nd? It’s the date of Nintendo’s Switch 2 Direct where we’re expected to get all the details of the console we didn’t get during the first-look trailer they released on January 16th, including launch games.
It sounds like Team Cherry could finally, finally be ready to talk about Hollow Knight: Silksong and they’re possibly going to use the Switch 2 Nintendo Direct on April 2nd to do it.
If Nintendo has managed to get Hollow Knight: Silksong on some sort of timed exclusivity for 6-12 months, it would be a huge get for Switch 2. It wouldn’t surprise me at all if Nintendo not only nabbed exclusivity for Silksong, but is actively helping Team Cherry with development.
However, it’s just speculation and rumor at this point. We’ll find out more on April 2, 2025. In the meantime, enjoy the Silksong trailer we got in 2019 one more time while we wait:
