The recent announcement of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3+4 wasn’t exactly a bombshell since it had been leaked pretty heavily, but was still welcome news. Now we’ve gotten some details about how it will play and which skaters will be featured.
Two-Minute Format For Tony Hawk 4
The original Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 4 was the first game in the series to do away with the two-minute format. The game featured an open world for you to skate around in and accomplish goals at your leisure. That won’t be the case for the Tony Hawk 3+4 remake. The two-minute format will be brought back for THPS 4. It sounds like developer Iron Galaxy wants it to be a unified game much like Tony Hawk 1+2 was, which had in-game achievements tied to the two-minute format for both games. It’s understandable they wanted to maintain what worked so well for Vicarious Visions in the Tony Hawk 1+2 remake, but it’s unfortunate we won’t be getting the open-world setting that Neversoft made for the original game. Still a must-buy for me nevertheless.
Iron Galaxy Layoffs
Speaking of Iron Galaxy, it’s being reported that 66 employees have been let go.
Today, Iron Galaxy is parting ways with some of our developers and support staff. In total, we have reduced our employee base by 66 people. This was a means of last resort for us.
It’s a measure we do not take lightly to enable our long-term survival.
At this moment, our focus is on our teammates who have begun a journey toward their next role. We thank them for working with us. We’ll be doing everything we can to support them in the search for the next phase of their careers. Keep an eye out for them if you need good people. We are sorry to see them go.
That’s unfortunate as I’ve heard nothing but good things about their work. They’ve worked on Metroid Prime Remastered, Killer Instinct, Spyro Reignited Trilogy, the Switch ports of Diablo III and Overwatch, and more. Hopefully, this Tony Hawk game will do well and stabilize things for them financially.
