Nightdive Studios continues to bring us updated PC classics from the 1990s. Up next is System Shock 2, one of the most influential PC games of all time, and the spiritual predecessor of the Bioshock series. We’ve known there was a remaster of System Shock 2 in development for a while now, but this is the first time we’ve gotten to see it. It still looks like a game from 1999, but the visuals have been cleaned up, it runs at high framerate with full controller and mod support, quality-of-life improvements, and achievements.
If you like Cyberpunk, Bioshock, or Deus Ex, System Shock 2 is the wellspring of all those games, made by the gone but never forgotten Looking Glass Studios and Irrational Games. The studios might be gone, but System Shock 2 will live forever. One of the great PC role-playing games of all time.
System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary Remaster releases on June 26, 2025 for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC. Check out the reveal trailer below:
