One announcement that got lost in all the Switch 2 discussion and controversy was the remaster of the original BRAVELY DEFAULT, an RPG that released on the 3DS in 2012. Square-Enix is re-releasing it as a Switch 2 launch game with the title BRAVELY DEFAULT FLYING FAIRY HD Remaster – a much longer name now, but it’s the same game with some new features and enhancements. The visuals are getting a facelift, along with a redesigned UI and some minigames that take advantage of Switch 2’s mouse functionality in the Joy-Con.

The original BRAVELY DEFAULT was one of the most beloved RPGs on the 3DS. It’s a throwback to the classic days of Squaresoft RPGs, specifically Final Fantasy I-VI. It has a robust job system with a solid story, characters, and voice-acting, not to mention it’s one of the prettiest games on the system. If you’re a fan of classic turn-based J-RPGs and missed BRAVELY DEFAULT, it’s definitely one to check out on Switch 2.

BRAVELY DEFAULT FLYING FAIRY HD Remaster releases for Switch 2 on June 5, 2025. Check out the announcement trailer below:
