Square-Enix has no intention of stopping with the HD-2D visual style pioneered by Team Asano, who has made the Bravely Default, Triangle Strategy, and Octopath Traveler games. The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales is the next entry in the series, and this time, it’s an action-RPG. Elliot can use seven types of weapons that can be enhanced by magicite, and he has a fairy companion named Faie that can help him explore and grant some special abilities. The trailer looks to be a fusion of A-RPG Diablo-like gameplay mixed with possibly some Legend of Zelda-like exploration. Team Asano claims the game will reward the curious so I guess we’ll find out next year when it launches.

The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales releases for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC in 2026, plus there’s a playable demo available now. Check out the reveal trailer below:

Get ready for an HD-2D adventure that’s unlike any we’ve made before – The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales comes to Nintendo Switch 2, PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC via Steam and Microsoft Store in 2026!

Developed by Team Asano – the developer behind the BRAVELY DEFAULT and OCTOPATH TRAVELER series, TRIANGLE STRATEGY and more – this exciting new project puts you in control of the titular Elliot in a fast-paced adventure that combines thrilling real-time action and rewarding exploration.

But don’t take our word for it – there’s a new ‘Debut Demo’ available for Nintendo Switch 2 that gives you an early look at the game, and even a chance to share your feedback.

You can get an idea of what to expect in the new trailer, and then read on to learn more about the game!

What is The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales?

The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales is an action RPG set in the world of Philabieldia – a beautiful but savage land dominated by warring beast tribes. Humanity’s last bastion is the Kingdom of Huther, protected by its tall walls and Princess Heuria’s powerful magic.

When a mysterious set of ruins is discovered, a young adventurer named Elliot and his fairy companion Faie are sent off on a journey to investigate. What seems like a simple, if dangerous, mission soon becomes a grand saga that will be woven across time and space.

As Elliot, you’ll explore an expansive world, from grassy plains to dank caves and mysterious ruins. Hordes of enemies roam these lands, but fortunately Elliot is well-equipped to deal with them. He can wield seven types of weapons, from swords for close quarters combat, bows for ranged attacks and even chains and sickles that can pull enemies towards him.

These weapons can be customized with magicite to increase their utility further. Some magicite has simple stat boosts – such as increasing attack damage – while others have effects that change their very function. A personal favorite is the Linked Arrows magicite which adds an extra hit to foes around your target when you use your bow

I want to give a special callout to Faie’s ‘Sprint’ power, which lets Elliot zip around the world with the wind quite literally at his back. It’s super-fast, fun to control… and when you fail to manage the momentum and smack into a wall also very funny.

If you want to see what I mean, you can because…

The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales Debut Demo is available now!

Switch 2 owners can download a demo for the game today. This ‘Debut Demo’ is designed to give you a sense of the exploration and action you’ll experience in the game, so expect plenty of crunchy combat, spooky caves and all kinds of secrets hidden around.

See a crackable wall? Blow it to smithereens with a bomb and you might discover a Secret Treasure Route- a small dungeon you can explore for valuable rewards.

Perhaps you’ll find a Shrine of Life – these optional challenges put your combat and traversal skills to the test. Perhaps you’ll find valuable loot like magicite or money. Always remember – this is a game that rewards the curious.

Or, you could follow the quest markers and delve into a deadly swamp, and the Unexplored Ruins beneath. This multi-level dungeon is full of dangers – so be sure to use everything you’ve learned to find your way through.

Once the demo is done, you’ll be invited to take part in a survey to tell us what you think. Your responses will help make the final game even better, so please share your feedback!
