The Onimusha series started in the early 2000s on PlayStation 2 and has been somewhat dormant in recent years, but Capcom has plans on changing that, as they’ve been hard at work on Onimusha: Way of the Sword. It features Miyamoto Musashi as the main protagonist set during the Edo period in medieval Japan. The combat centers around parrying and breaking the enemy’s stamina, rendering them helpless, and then collecting souls after you defeat them – but to be clear, this is not a Soulslike and doesn’t play like one at all. Onimusha is not that type of game.

There are three different soul-types to collect: red for upgrades, blue for building Musashi’s power gauge for special attacks, and yellow souls for health replenishment. It’s a nice triangle that you can cycle through and play off each other as you slice, dice, and parry through the various demons and undead.
