Nintendo likes to release a new Legend of Zelda game every year in some form if they can, either a mainline game in the series or a spin-off. In 2025, it’s going to be Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment.
The Hyrule Warriors series is actually made by Koei-Tecmo and plays significantly different from the mainline Zelda games. It’s a 1-versus-1000 musou action-RPG where you can play as multiple characters. Age of Imprisonment chronicles the story of The Imprisoning War that The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom hints at. It’s basically Princess Zelda’s side of the story.
Age of Imprisonment will have two-player split-screen co-op multiplayer, or you can play together through GameShare. Legend of Zelda amiibos will get you some extra in-game items. Save data from Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and Zelda: Age of Calamity will get you some exclusive weapons as well.
Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment releases for Nintendo Switch 2 on November 6, 2025. Check out the new story and gameplay trailer below:
