The original Halo is getting a remake…again. Halo Studios announced Halo: Campaign Evolved, a full remake of Halo: Combat Evolved which released on the original Xbox in 2001 and was the flagship launch title for the console.
This will also be the first time that Halo will appear on a PlayStation console. There will be three new prequel missions as well, four-player online co-op, cross-play/progression between platforms, and of course, local split-screen multiplayer.
It seems like we’ve been getting a lot of remakes in general from studios recently, which is great, but Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary exists, and although it came out in 2011, it still looks and plays fine and it could make one wonder how necessary this new remake really is. Will Halo 2 also be getting another remake? Microsoft is in dire need of revenue to help pay for their recent massive acquisitions of Bethesda and Activision-Blizzard and maybe they believe that going back to the game that put them on the map in the console space is the way to go.
Halo: Campaign Evolved releases for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC in 2026. Check out the announcement trailer below:
