After four years of no updates, Animal Crossing: New Horizons has gotten a big content patch for all owners of the game, plus the Switch 2 Edition is now available as well.
The main attraction for the free update is the new hotel you’ll find on your island run by Cap’n and his family. You’ll be asked to help out with the decorating of the rooms. For doing so, you’ll be able to purchase rare souvenir items you can’t get anywhere else. Also, you’ll be encouraged to craft items that the Cap’n takes on his sea voyages to help promote your island and encourage tourism. If you’ve played the Happy Home Designer paid DLC for New Horizons, it’s very similar to that.
LEGO items are part of the update, as well as Legend of Zelda and Splatoon items if you have amiibo.
Some welcome quality-of-life features are included, like the ability to craft more than one item at a time, which is something that should’ve been in the game at launch, but which took Nintendo almost six years to add. Also, Resetti makes an appearance to let you know he now offers a clean up service for flowers, weeds, and other items.
Slumber Island is basically a blank canvas to do even more island decorating. You can have up to four more islands to decorate with landscaping and/or furniture. You can even invite your island residents to visit. The caveat is that you have to have a Nintendo Switch Online subscription to use Slumber Island.
NES games are making their return, albeit with only a small selection right now. However, again the caveat is that you need a Nintendo Switch Online subscription to play them.
The Switch 2 Edition of New Horizons comes with improved graphical resolution, mouse control functionality, a megaphone item that helps you find your island residents, increased multiplayer from eight to 12 players, plus GameChat and camera functionality. The Switch 2 Edition comes in at $64.99. If you already own the game on Switch, the Switch 2 upgrade will cost you $4.99.
