Given the heavy rumors that were circulating, I’m not surprised Baldur’s Gate III has been officially announced. However, I am surprised it was announced a week before E3. No release date has been set, so it might be awhile before anyone can play it, but given Larian Studios experience with the Divinity: Original Sin series, the Baldur’s Gate license is probably in good hands.
