Square-Enix isn’t slowing down with the HD-2D RPGs. Next on the list is Final Fantasy Resonance, a full reimagining of Final Fantasy Brave Exvius, a mobile game from 2015, but without all the mobile trappings of microtransactions and gatcha mechanics. They’ve turned it into a standard, traditional J-RPG. Not only will this be the first game in the Final Fantasy series to use HD-2D visuals, it will feature 17 classic characters from the series, in the form of Visions.

The Visions are the spirits of these characters, and equipping them gives access to abilities, skills, and buffs that can be leveled-up to Mastery rank. The story takes the classic Final Fantasy route and revolves around crystals, Chocobos, airships, knights, and amnesia. It’s classic turn-based Final Fantasy with a modern visual style.
