So it seems that FromSoftware is not done with Elden Ring after all despite stating that there are no immediate plans for Elden Ring 2. At The Game Awards, they announced Elden Ring: Nightreign, a co-op multiplayer game set in the world of The Lands Between. You team up with three other players for short play sessions with pre-set characters (you don’t get to create your own character), explore, fight enemies, and then fight a boss you and your comrades choose at the beginning of your session.
According to PC Gamer’s hands-on time with it, Nightrein is a standalone expansion. Meaning, you don’t need to own the Elden Ring base game to play Nightreign. However, it’s not a singleplayer game either, which means you will be playing online either with people you know or strangers. The gameplay will be faster and resemble more of an action game than Elden Ring, but RPG elements will still be intact.
FromSoftware is planning a network test before the official release, and Elden Ring: Nightreign will be coming out sometime in 2025 for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and PC. Check out the announcement trailer below:
