Halo: Campaign Evolved is a complete retelling of Halo: Combat Evolved, the first Halo game that released on the original Xbox back in 2001, which was a runaway success and the console’s first system-seller. Halo: Campaign Evolved is that game rebuilt from the ground-up using Unreal Engine 5 and adds new weapons and voice-acting, an updated soundtrack, three new missions, and vastly upgraded visuals.

However, since its release, players are reporting the dialogue and character changes, questionable writing and voice-acting, performance issues, not to mention Cortana’s changed appearance, leave it falling short of Bungie’s original, or the Master Chief Collection version from 2011.

Campaign Evolved currently has a Mixed user-review rating and low player-count on Steam, but as we’ve seen many times from big releases like No Man’s Sky and Cyberpunk 2077, there is still time for Halo Studios to fix at least some of the issues. They’ve already acknowledged some of the performance problems with temporary workarounds players can use until they can get a patch released. As it stands right now though, it might be better to wait for any potential changes, or at least a sale, and hopefully things can get worked out.
