While Crimson Moon might look like just another Dark Souls clone, it has unique aspects that set it apart. You get the diversity of builds along with the fun combat, but it’s set in a Biblically-themed apocalyptic world of angels, demons, and Nephilim, similar to Darksiders. You can play by yourself or 2-player co-op as you fight the hordes of hell in the city of Gildenarch.

Also, it’s only $20, which is almost unheard of for a game like this. It respects not just your money, but developer Probably Monsters’ design also respects your time if you don’t have a lot of it to commit to a long play session, as you can jump in and out between runs whenever you need to. It’s basically an arcadey Souls-like.

Right now, it has some jank, plus other technical and design issues, but Probably Monsters are listening to player feedback and getting fixes and patches out as quickly as they can. It’s hard to fault them when they’re a small team and the asking price is so reasonable, but in the meantime, Crimson Moon looks like it has a lot of promise.

Crimson Moon is out now for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. Check out the launch and gameplay trailer below:
